Moving to a new machine

What syncs, what has to be exported by hand, and what simply has to be set up again.

There is no single "export everything" button. Three separate mechanisms cover different parts of your setup, and knowing which is which saves a lot of hunting.

What Cloud Sync carries

With Cloud Sync on, signing in on the new machine brings across:

  • Workspaces and their entries
  • Your personal context and global custom vocabulary
  • AI providers and models, including BYOK definitions
  • Voice commands, command groups and app favourites
!
Application preferences do not sync — hotkeys, audio device, injection mode, theme and the rest are per-machine and must be set again. The app itself says settings sync is "coming soon".

The one thing you can export

Hands-Free settings offer Export and Import for a JSON bundle of voice commands, command groups, app favourites and custom vocabulary. Useful without an account, or for sharing a command set with a colleague.

Requires Pro?
ExportNo
ImportYes

Import is additive — existing entries are kept and only new ones are added — and you can choose which categories to bring in.

!
Bundles are not fully portable across operating systems. Apps are identified differently on each platform, so app-related commands from a Mac will not resolve on Windows. The importer warns you when it detects this.

What you have to redo

  • Downloaded models — re-download on the new machine; they are large and deliberately not synced
  • API keys — held in the OS credential store, which does not travel with your account
  • Dictation history and statistics — local by design and never uploaded
  • All preferences — hotkeys, audio device, injection mode, theme

If you use Private Sync

The new machine will ask for your recovery key once before it can read encrypted content. Have it to hand before you wipe the old machine — it cannot be recovered from our side. Private Sync covers the details.
